Coldplay, Death Cab, Vampire Weekend to play Pemberton Music Festival

Fans of green-friendly music festivals, take note.  On July 25-27, Coldplay, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Nine Inch Nails will headline the first-ever Pemberton Music Festival.  Presented by Live Nation and Good Boy Productions, the 3-day event will take place in the mountain setting of Pemberton, British Colombia, and feature 2 stages, a dance tent, and over 50 bands, including old favorites like Death Cab for Cutie, The Flaming Lips, and My Morning Jacket, as well as newbies Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Grand Ole Party and more.

Pemberton is probably best known as a popular vacation spot in the winter (Whistler Resort, a ski destination where a bulk of the events will be held for the 2010 Winter Olympics, is close by). But Live Nation didn’t just pick Pemberton for the sweet views.  It’s using the 360 acre festival grounds – complete with a festival village, camping facilities and an RV park – as a way to raise environmental awareness.  Hydro-electric energy will be used as the event’s main power source, and carpoolers with 4 or more can park for free.  Instead of typical festival fare, Pemberton will have a farmer’s market where local farmers can sell their goods directly to concert-goers.  When it’s time to sleep off all the fresh food and rocking, camp sites will be available, or if you prefer more civilized lodging, motels and top-notch luxury hotels in Whistler are an option.

Tickets for the Pemberton Festival go on sale March 28 at 10am at www.PembertonFestival.com.
